Shatterpoint - First Thoughts
"OH NO! We've lost him to a game that doesn't exist yet! Legion is Dead! Sell all of your stuff and boycott AMG!" - Someone Probably.
Yeah... No. I'll preface this with: I don't think anything could replace Star Wars Legion for me. I have an absolutely fantastic community here in Knoxville, I love the game itself and adore the community and people. However, with all of that said, I am damn excited for Shatterpoint. I love painting and playing miniatures games and I am a Star Wars nut through and through.
I know we don't have much information on Shatterpoint, but it is slowly being trickled in daily. From what I've seen so far I can say without a doubt I will absolutely enjoy this game. I'm going to go down a quick list of things that excite me about Shatterpoint.
- The Models look fucking fantastic. I will always be a hobbyist before a wargamer. I love building and painting just about anything under the sun. The sculpts are beautiful and, since they're bigger than the legion, have amazing detail built into them. I cannot wait to get my hands on Obi-Wan, Maul, and Ahsoka. If for any reason I decided I don't enjoy playing Shatterpoint, I can say, without a doubt, I will be purchasing every expansion just to paint them.
- The Time and Finacial Commitment, or rather, lack thereof. Shatterpoint is a game that allegedly takes around 90 minutes to complete. That is a decent place to start. My assumption is that, as with all things, once you get better you become more efficient with time. I would not be surprised, nor disappointed if Shatterpoint is a game that can take as little as 45 minutes. We've seen the price of the Core Box to be $165 USD. This seems pretty steep being ~$65 more expensive than the previous Star Wars Core Sets, but none of those came with a large amount of beautiful terrain. They've also said that all future Squad boxes and expansions will be $50 USD. That also seems like a steep price until you realize that $50 gets you a whole half of an army. $265 USD will get you all of the required items, terrain, and 6 different squads which can be mixed and matched to make hundreds of different combinations.
- The Possibilities! I won't go into too much detail and speculation here, but I will do so in a future article. I think there are a ton of really cool possibilities for units in this game and I am looking forward to seeing how they do it!
- The Art is gorgeous. I know it has absolutely nothing to do with gameplay, but my lord! Look at this:
That's only 2 out of 8 images we've seen. I am in love with the art style and look of these. I am so happy that this is what they've chosen to be on the unit cards.
I think that's all I have to say for now, but I will definitely be keeping up with Shatterpoint! If you have any suggestions of what I should cover now or when the game is out please let me know! Any suggestions on how to organize this site to best fit the communities needs are also welcome!
