What I Have been Flying Recently

I had my first in-person games of Armada since last winter this past weekend and it inspired me to write a bit about what I have been flying and enjoying lately. I have been trying to play on vassal at least once a week for the last couple of months, but I am moving houses so I  have been swamped. Getting a weekend off to play some Armada games and demos with interested players was a lovely break.

During the games I got in I ran a fleet that I wanted to run in the VWC this past year but decided against.

As you may know, I am an MC30 fan for life. It is an absolute powerhouse of a ship and at this point, I nearly refuse to run rebels without at least one. This list fits a fairly similar chassis to what I've been running for rebels the last couple of months in general. 1-3 Shrimp, at least 1 GR-75, Shara, and Tycho as a minimum screen. My VWC list was very similar to this and I am pretty pleased with how that turned out.

Ackbar is the first Admiral I used in Armada and it's because he's one of my favorite characters, but he is also damn good. What he does for MC30s and CR90s is simply wonderful. The ability to throw 4 reds (before a CF) from a shrimp at long range is fantastic. Being able to soften up your target before speeding in, dropping rax, and speeding out is scary good.

Usually, I will try to use the MC30s as a unit of 3 to focus on one target, sometimes I will send two on a broadside run in front of whatever I am shooting and send the third one straight ahead so it can clean up the damaged target. TRCs make them so potent with at a minimum guaranteed 2 damage, which doesn't sound like a lot, but even without Ackbar if I can manage 2-3 double arcs that's at least 6+ damage per turn. Unless you're lucky like me and roll like this:

This is an Ackbar MC30 side shot. I was lucky enough to Ackbar slash my opponent's ISD and Venator with one of my MC30s after softening them up on the approach.

Luckily enough I was able to avoid being in the front arc of either Star Destroyer which was huge. Because of that the MC30 died a turn or two later than I expected and got 2-3 more shots off.

The flotilla is mainly there to pass tokens in the first round or two and then, if necessary, command Shara and Tycho.

The CR90 is probably the only ship I would consider changing up a bit. In my VWC list, it was a Hammerhead in the slot, but that wouldn't be great for Ackbar, so the consideration is maybe to drop the CR90 altogether and replace it with another flotilla to gain some points for EST on the shrimp, maybe a Title on whichever shrimp becomes the flagship, or more durable squads. It is something I will be playing around with for a good while.
